Sorry Folks but I can't seem to get to "xxx@microsoft.UUCP" so I will have
to post this one. I will try to "genericise" it so everyone can benefit

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I recently purchased an Ehman Engineering HDD 30 Hard drive. Three
words.. I LOVE IT! I used Disktimer and SCSI Hacker to format it to 4:1
interleave and it now registers one of the fastest times in the Disktimer
list (49/90/51) I have it partitioned in two partitions (one 20 meg, one 10
meg) with no real problems. I am using an Apple Rev 'C' SCSI card. I got the
SCSI card and cable for $129 and then drive for $450. (I notice you can get
it $30 cheaper). One minor problem. The HDSC Partition software that
comes with the card only will partition it to two 10 meg partitions (or any
other combination totalling 20 megs) even though it recognizes the drive
as 30 megs. I don't know why. This is no real consequence though because
I can simply use the GS/OS partition program to expand the partition to
20 megs.
I must say that I love the convenience of GS/OS on a hard drive.
I have three system folders on the disk which I just rename when I want
to use one. The first is a "loaded" directory with lots of drivers,
the second is a "small" one for fast loading, and the third is a "bare"
one for when I need an extra 50-100K of memory.
If you get a drive, Don't Immediately format it! Connect it first
to a mac and get all of the software off of it. They give you tons of
PD Software AND PCTools on the disk. I was unaware of this so I have a
PCTools manual but no disk. Ah well.
The drive itself is a little hard to put somewhere. I place it
between my CPU and my Montior (RGB). It is a little small though so I place
a rubber piece on the back edge of my drive so the monitor doesn't
accidentally slip off. I have had no trouble whatsoever with the drives and
the company seems to be doing quite well. I have no complaints. Go for it.
