Well, I thought I'd add my $.02 to the discussion.. In my opinion I was shafted by the good people at Zip Technology. I placed my order on the second day of the Boston Applefest, May 6 1989 to be exact. The check was cleared within the week of purchase. I was told incorrectly that the Zip Chip 8 would be shipping by the end of June. This was a mistake of the woman who took my order. I was assured over the telephone that their intended shipping date was firmly set as the second week of July (hmm.. sounds firm, eh?).. So I wait... and I keep calling.. and life goes on pretty much as usual.. I try to call them every few weeks to make them feel as bad as possible.. But really, it's now almost Christmas. I wish they had come right out and asked for some venture capital. I would have been more than welcome to turn them down. But no, instead they accumulate venture capital through bogus tactics. I have more than once asked them (him, the guy who they put on if you start hassling them) politely agrees with all statements I make and then (he must be a recording) says something about bad RAM and something about "a few weeks"... I have asked them several times for a zip chip 4 to be sent to me in the interim. I have promised that upon receipt of the zip chip 8 I will promptly send the zip 4 back. THAT SOUNDS LIKE A VERY REASONABLE OFFER considering the delay and the fact that they are sitting on my money. They then come back at me with "then we would have to do the same thing for everyone!" OF COURSE, YOU SLIMEBALLS!! Well, I have since cancelled my order and still making weekly calls to try to get my money back. The phone guy (the one who they put on after the front line gives up) tells me that the order department will get back to me but a) they aren't in today b) they're in today but are not currently in c) neither a nor b d) not enough information to solve problem. The subject line says it all.. I assume we're going to hear of a new zip chip 32 soon.... It's a Mac on a chip with an Apple // emulation mode.. They tell me it'll be out by the end of June... ARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! zip tech victims unite!! if you've ordered a zip 8 and would like to voice your complaint, please mail me and I will post a summary... thanks -Paul Nakada pnakada@oracle.com
