[comp.sys.apple] Data transfer Apple ][e --> PC

fisher@sc2a.unige.ch (Markus Fischer) (12/02/89)

Hi everybody!

I've a little problem, concerning reading Ap*le ][e disks.

One client has an Ap*le ][e now, working with PFS:wr*te and Ap*leWorks.
So, he want to update his system buying an PC running under
MS-D*S. My problem is, how to read these disks on the PC, or how to
transfer *easyly* the data on the PC.

This client will receive from other offices, in the next months (or
years, who knows ?:-) a lot of disks written using these softwares.

Therefore, the conversion must be made by the client, and he is *not*
a programmer. Just an user :-).

Is there anybody which has further seen or resolve that problem? Thanx
for help.

Please E-mail me your answers/comments, I'll resume on the network.

Thanx for helping,

                        Fred :-)

What you want to do is a wee bit complicated. I'm going to list some products
that might help you:

1. PFS:CONVERT - a free program from PFS that converts DOS 3.3 PFS files to
ProDOS PFS files.

2. CrossWorks - a commercial program that converts IBM files such as
WordPerfect to AppleWorks and (I think) vice versa.

3. MatchPoint PC - an interface card that can be installed in an IBM PC that
allows it to read and write Apple II DOS 3.3, ProDOS, and CP/M disks. It
will allow you to move files between IBM an Apple II but does no conversions
except to add or strip linefeeds for text files.

4. Apple File Exchange (AFE) the Mac with the Works-Works translator that
comes with Microsoft Works allows AppleWorks files to be converted to Mac
Microsoft Works.

5. AFE with an Apple FDHD drive allows reading and writing IBM files on a Mac.

6. Conversion programs on IBM such as Software Bridge and R-Doc DX (my
favourite) can convert PFS file to other formats. Whether Apple ProDOS or
DOS 3.3 PFS files use the same format as IBM PFS files is another matter.

I hope all of this helps.
