[comp.sys.apple] Photonix

lbotez@pro-sol.cts.COM (Lynda Botez) (11/29/89)

Several people sent me e-mail regarding posting this program on
Apple.2.binaries. I remember reading a post that someone had actually
binsciied it and sent it up. I didn't see it, however (though I'm not sure if
pnet gets the entire feed).

Did it ever show up?

It would be nice if long posts such as the ACS demo could be posted on
ftp sites in a binary format and then advertised on comp.binaries. It
would reduce traffic volume and also, it would be more convenient.
However, there could be problems with access to ftp sites but having
9+ messages seems a little long.

I just posted it to comp.binaries.apple2. I hope the repetition on
both APPLE2-L and comp.binaries.apple2 doesn't inconvenience anyone.

From what I hear, a lot of users who look at c.bin.a2 don't have access
to FTP. I though that was the principle idea behind the notesfile: to make
a form of communication accessible by all. FTPing that large thing would
only have transferred the traffic to another place, i.e. taking up 300k of
some site's diskspace, and also causing an influx of users wanting to FTP it.
Is there a "legal" size limit to files? I doubt there is considering
the fact that I've seen some hayooge things come across, e.g. the recent
(sort of) Nucleus Demo post (almost twice the size of the ACS Demo.) I
think limiting it goes against the file policy. I dunno, I only _want_
to run the notesfile... ;-)
