XMODEM does absolutely NO translation of characters. After all, it was designed to send all sorts of files, not just text. Imagine what would happen if it s started to translate object code? The standard end-of-file marker is a control-Z. Apples use a null, ascii 0, I think. ________________________________________________________ Thomas C. Can anyone describe the details of the various XMODEM protocols? I think I have a clear idea on CRC and checksum basic XMODEM. But then there is: XMODEM 1K Packets XMODEM Ascii Express DOS 3.3 XMODEM Ascii Express Prodos XMODEM Checksum 16-bit YMODEM Can all of these be wrapped up into one "smart" protocol? (from the sender side). Thanks for the responses! In the Apple II world, there seem to be numerous types of XModem protocols - Xmodem standard, Xmodem 1K, Xmodem Prodos, Xmodem Dos, Xmodem ___, ad nauseum. It's obvious what some of these mean, but can somebody summarize what the difference between these protocols is? --- Subash Shankar Honeywell Systems & Research Center voice: (612) 782 7558 US Snail: 3660 Technology Dr., Minneapolis, MN 55418 shankar@src.honeywell.com srcsip!shankar
