[comp.sys.apple] Zip Chip Blues

lbotez@pro-sol.cts.COM (Lynda Botez) (11/29/89)

I can't believe people still trust the "Zip" boys. When the first Zip Chip
came out for the IIe; everyone moaned and groaned and complained about how
they sent in their money and got nothing in return; some people waited for
over a year.

Leopards don't change their spots. Buyer beware; and if you have to buy, send
them a credit card number, NOT a check. With a credit card, you have some
recourse; since you should not have to pay for something you've never
received. When airlines go out of business; most people who pay with a credit
card get a refund.

I heard that at least they are still answering the phone at Zip Technologies
(ha!).

What ever happened to the Zip Chip GS that at AppleFest they said would be
available this month?

I have had numerous problems with Zip Techonology... My Zip chip fried so I
sent it back to them... I received another Zip chip which didn't work... So
I sent that chip back (which was in Aug) and I still haven't received my Zip
Chip back... I did get a nice letter from them saying my Zip Chip will be
delivered before Dec. 25. I hope this is true...

It seems to me a lot of people are complaining about Zip Chip's quality and per
fomance. Let me just help plug Rocket Chip's 10Mhz model. I have version 1.0,
and have had no problems as of yet (knock on wood!)... The rocket chip is sel
ling for less than the 8 Mhz zip chip (I believe). I would really recommend tha
t those who have placed orders for the Zip reconsider and order a Rocket Chip f
rom Quality Computing. There may be a back order, but that's not because of chi
p problems!

Glad I didn't succumb to whim and buy one!

I will have the results of my tests soons. In order to do all the bench marks,
I have to remove the new chip and put in the new one (although I really don't w
ant to) Anyway, I will try to preform tests with appleworks.... actually, maybe
I will just do simple tests (basic for loops, appleworks sorting of the alphab
et backwards, etc). I really don't want to remove the chip now. I will include
compatability and comments. Then you can repeat the test on your own system and
compare. Will have this done by Thursday!
