Is there anyone out there who has the game Shanghai for the GS? I have been told that on Genie and/or Applelink (or America Online, or whatever it's called nowdays) one can find public-domain and shareware tile sets to replace the standard tile set that comes with the game. Does anybody out there know if it is possible to get any of these tile sets via FTP? If so, where should I look? Some of these alternate tile sets have appeared on the public-domain disks put out by the users' group to which I belong, and they have been rather popular. But after they started appearing, I became aware of a frequent complaint: switching between alternate tile sets is a royal pain in the *ss. You have to save the old tile set someplace safe, copy the new tile set onto the Shanghai disk (in two separate places), and then reboot the game. To make this process easier, I wrote an NDA which will load a new tile set at any time during a game. Is there enough interest in such an NDA out there to justify uploading it to comp.binaries.apple2? (P.S. I have no connection with Activision, or with the people who designed the alternate tile sets.) -- Neil Parker nparker@cie.uoregon.edu (preferred) or parker@astro.uoregon.edu DISCLAIMER: Any resemblence between these opinions and reality as we know it is purely coincidential.

After receiving several favorable responses to my Shanghai tile set loader NDA via E-mail, I've uploaded it to comp.binaries.apple2. If anybody out there wants it but can't access comp.binaries.apple2, or if it never shows up at your site (I'm not sure I trust the news posting system on this machine), send me E-mail and I'll mail a copy to you. -- Neil Parker nparker@cie.uoregon.edu (preferred) or parker@astro.uoregon.edu
