 HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do not know if this is the right to send this to but if not i am sorry.

I have an APPLE IIe running Kermit 2.11 and am trying to transfer a binary
file from a VAX 11/780 running Unix 4.3. which also has kermit.

I have both kermits in binary mode.

When I down load a binary file from the vax the file size the kermit says
 seems to be correct ~9K

But when I upload the file I down loaded from the vax the resulting file
 is ~12K

 WHATS HAPPENING !!!!!

any info would be greatly welcomed.

 				thanks
 				peter

I wouln't take Kermit's file size too seriously. I'm never sure
whether Kermit is telling you the number of bytes it *sent* not just
the file size. Those other bytes may include header info and or
quoted characters; But binary is anybody's guess! It all depends
where the end of file mark is placed. I'll bet the files ok...

Help!!! Thanks to this notesfile, I found a copy of Kermit 3.80,
got it to run on my apple, and thought I would be able to emulate a
vt100, but couldn't figure out how to get the $%^&%&^$(*& thing to dial
a number, in spite of (because of?) the documentation. Screen messages
claim it is dialing, but by listening in through the telephone, I
noticed that it never got rid of the dial tone, although there was a
click and a slight lowering of the volume of the dial tone. I have an
Apple IIe with a Hayes Micromodem IIe. I'm sure the disk was configured
right. I think the problem is that I can't figure out how to use the
program.
If there's some kind soul out there who can give me any
suggestion about what to try, I would be eternally endebted and also
able to use the text editor, which would enable me to work at home.

					Thanks.

Jeff,

This is not directed at you but is one more reason why we
need a comp.binaries.apple2 newsgroup; there are those of
us on the *net* who can *not* ftp files - what then should
we do to obtain a copy of Kermit 3.81?

Would you consider being kind enough to email it to Christopher
Chung at the following address so that *some* of us who
are still using Kermit 3.79 could have a copy also?

Please send Kermit 3.81 to:

    apple2-L@BROWNVM.BITNET

P.S. Or did Chris decide not to keep Kermit on the LISTSERV
because it can be obtained by anonymous ftp?

Kermit 3.81 is still in beta test. Use it at your own risk.
When 3.81 comes out of beta test then chris will get it.
Beta test users are required to comment back.

I have been getting some wierd stuff happening when I am using my newly
acquired copy of KERMIT 65. I am working on an unenhance //e with a
RAMWORKS III 512k card and a hayes compatable modem(1200 baud ..I know
I know only 1200) on a super serial card.
I am using this as a terminal of the vax cluster at school. What happens
is that I am getting random characters that are missing from the first 10
characters or so. Also, when reading boards, the screen doesn't completely
clear when I go to the next post. I get the feeling that I have configured
kermit wrong or something because there seems to be no pattern. For instance,
sometimes when I dial in, I get kicked into 40 columns. Just general wierd
screen stuff. Can anyone help?????
