I have been reading all the stuff about DaveX, and from what I am picking up, it sounds like a Unix type shell for the Apple? Am I right in my assumption? Could someone give a brief description of it? And also, where can I get it? (Is it at a FTP site anywhere?) Thanks. Guy Kendall

It is fairly Unix-ish, but it doesn't go out of its way to mimic the C shell--for example, pathname parameters are required to come before any "-" options, although this is changing in the next version, finally. It has wildcards, command history, & standard housekeeping commands (like lock/unlock, delete (files or directories), copy (files or directories), catalog listing that can be sorted lots of ways or show the contents of subdirectories (indented underneath)). There's a decent variety of other commands, and there's a fairly large amount of online help--I won't try to list all its features here. Davex is available from at least one of the popular FTP sites; if you have trouble getting it from there, just send me your address & I'll send you a disk to play with (tell me whether you want a 3.5" or 5.25" disk [both sides of the 5.25 are close to full]). -- --David A.
