So, I'm extremely curious as to how many Apple ][, ][ Plus and //e owners have a W65C802 in their machine? How many of these W65C802s are on a TransWarp card? How many of you have one of those //e specific memory cards with a 24 bit address bus directly connected to an on-board W65C816? What I would like to know is: how many of you would actually purchase a card which combined the speed of a (non-GS) TransWarp (4, 8 or 10 MHz) with the power of the 16 bit 65C816 to address 16 Meg of RAM? Considering that the current 3.58MHz TransWarp has 256K of DRAM (which isn't even fully accessible) and that the price of 8 bit X 1 Meg RAM is so cheap now (and fits in the same space and power needs), I would think a card to give those old Apple ]['s the power of the GS is well within reach. Only if there is an interest. On a related note, the Apple Video Overlay card seems to be capable of giving double the resolution of a GS to the older Apple ][s. Only that the driver software won't run on anything less than an enhanced //e. If different video software were available, or if the accelerator card I mentioned was capable of running the existing VOC utilities, then all one would need is an Ensoniq DOC on a card to make most of the GS available as an option for older Apple's. Well, one would need the toolbox ROMs. Perhaps these could be accessed by the 24 bit address processor card. Just rambling...
