One possible explaination for the infamous "Straw" anomaly in 2001: If the food container was not vented adequately, sucking on the straw would cause the sides of the container to bend in. When vaccuum was removed, the sides would spring out- pulling fluid in the straw back into the container, assuming the fluid is viscous enough to mantain a good seal. This would even be an advantage; fluid would not continue out of the straw when the person took his/her mouth from the straw.
