Recently I've been getting a 'Fatal System Error 0911' on my IIgs. According to an issue of inCider, that's an Apple Destop Bus timing error, and it's possibly caused by your computer overheating. Is there any other reason? All my IIgs has inside is 512K of additional RAM. If it matters, I also have an external modem, a 5.25 drive and a 3.5 drive. I do have an RGB monitor on top of the IIgs. I saw some postings a while back about keyboard connections gone awry (plus many flames to Apple). Can this be a reason? Thanks, Howard huang@husc4.harvard.edu _____________________________________________________________________________ Howard C. I've been getting the message "Fatal Error 0911" every once in a while as my GS fails to boot. Usually, rebooting works. Once, I did a system check, got an error message (which I don't have a record of), tried again and got "System Good" and then rebooted without a problem. Has this happened to anyone else? Should I worry about it? Alan H. Error 0911 is a problem with the Apple Desktop Bus, but I can't remember exactly what. I remember inCider says it can be caused by overheating in your GS (even though my GS only has a 512K RAM card inside). It seems like I read something about bad connections on Apple keyboards. Maybe this has something to do with the error. Anyway, I still haven't found a solution to the problem, so like you, I get these errors every so often. It does seem to happen after my computer's been on for a while, so maybe it is related to overheating. If anyone else can help with this problem, please let me know. Howard C. My computer/modem/something has been acting really peculiar since I downloaded some gifs, and I'm dying to know what's wrong without taking the thing into the shop. -------- "Keep On Rocking in a Free World" UNESTJ@uncvx1.bitnet <Tamara>

In-Reply-To: message from STEIN@UCONNVM.BITNET I had that message at one time a while back and after many months of being lost in the dark as to what it was, I found out it was due to some RAS before CAS ramchips in my memory board...<as I remember correctly, you need CAS before RAS in most GS memory boards> I swapped them out for some other ones and have never seen that msg again...also, another problem with the bad ram chips was the inablity to use a ramdisk without it going bad on me _____ UUCP: crash!pro-lep!kermie ARPA: crash!pro-lep!kermie@nosc.mil INET: kermie@pro-lep.cts.com

Apple DTS told me that 0911 is often heat related when I started getting lots of the errors this past summer. The problem disappeared when cooler weather came in the fall until a few weeks ago when I installed a TransWarp GS in my machine. This added enought additional heat that I started getting 0911s again. When I have the 0911 problem, I pop the cover on my GS and run with the cover off which cools the machine down and solves the problem. As a (hopefully) permanent solution to the problem, I've got a Kensington System Saver GS on order. -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- John F.
