[comp.sys.apple] UltraMacros and MultiRam are incompatible

ctuel@polyslo.CalPoly.EDU (Cliff Tuel) (01/12/90)

I was VERY disppointed when I learned that TimeOut UltraMacros (under
AppleWorks 3.0) is incompatible with Checkmate Technology's MultiRam boards.
UltraMacros destroys my RAMdisk, where I usually keep my applications.
I would not have bought the software had I know about this, BUT Beagle
doesn't tell you until deep down in a text file on the disk itself. A
notice on the package would have been nice. Now what can I do? Will
Beagle Bros fix this problem?

First, have you tried to talk to Customer Support. Second, I have
strong doubts that it is actually UltraMacros that is causing the
problem. AppleWorks 3.0 is more likely the culprit.. you need to
do one of several things :

1. Contact Checkmate for their new Ramdisk program
2. Use Prosel's Ramdriver + a PD program called Ramset

3. See if AE's Prodrive ramdisk driver works, and if so, maybe
   use it along with Ramset.

The key is to use a Ramdisk that lets you lock out lower banks
and then using something like Ramset, lock out the Ramdisk banks
from AppleWorks 3.0. AW 3.0 will grab everything it can, but if
you tell it "leave 5 banks alone", it will not touch the 5 uppermost
banks on an Auxcard memory system.
