Since I read info-apple, I have no idea what address this was
posted from and can't send in a reply. Remember: .SIG files
are there so people can figure out how to contact you.

	The comp.sys.apple <-> info-apple gateway strips out so much
header info that you can't find the senders address? I find that hard
to believe, but if it is true, that would make the gateway a pretty
useless piece of software. My address is "spike@world.std.com".

->Spike  .signatures, who needs them.

Spike, this is the header on the info-app message we see. I don't see ANYTHING
which could easily translate to "spike@world.std.com". Thats why there are
.sig files.  OK?  Thanks

Spike, your ignorance is showing. You know too little about internetwork
communication, USENET, and RFC 822. Every now and then the gateway does
preserve the UUCP 'bang' address it receives (though the RFC doesn't require
it to for reasons that are about to become obvious). Here's your *ahem*
return path (as received on BITNET) -

From:         Joe Ilacqua
              <snorkelwacker!spdcc!merk!xylogics!world!spike
              @BLOOM-BEACON.MIT.EDU>

I trust you can intantly tell that the above path is NOT the optimum
way to reach you from BITNET or anywhere else. When you stick a post
onto a USENET list, it follows along it's own merry UUCP distribution path
until it hits a gateway that forwards it to the Internet. What you see
is the route USENET takes from 'world' to MIT.

It happens that 'world' is a UUCP host which has a registered domain
address. Because 'world' isn't actually on the Internet, some mailers
will need to know who your Mail eXchanger (MX) is, in order to reach you.
The MX for World happens to be -
    world.std.com        MX = uunet.uu.net
Apparently World's connection to UUNET isn't direct -
    FROM PSUVAX1: Path to world: rutgers!mimsy!uunet!skuld!world!username
The correct (administratively recommended :-) address from BITNET, in fact,
is: spike@world.uucp (although spike@world.std.com will work).

You do, for one unless you LIKE answering questions and not getting answers.
If you're going to advertise the dial-up number at the end of your messages,
you may as well include your (complete) address

-spike%world.std.com@uunet.uu.net aka spike@world.uucp
