I operate an Apple IIc at home, coupled to a ZOOM MX2400 modem, and I have had outstanding service from this hardware. I am considering a replacement for my original ImageWriter I printer. Is is possible to connect a laser printer to the IIc? What type of equipment would you recommend, and what, if any, are interfacing problems that I should be aware of? Thank you for your assistance. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Dr. Harold (Hal) Caldwell | Coordinator 00HLCALDWELL@BSUVAX1.BITNET | Arts and Communications Advising Center | 210 Arts and Communications Building Telephone (317) 285-8686 | Ball State University | Muncie, Indiana 47306 USA =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

I'd guess you could use the same serial port with a laser printer that you use with your Imagewriter. I know that the LaserWriter II has a serial port; it's provided primarily for hookup to non-Apple equipment. For example, the dorm across the street has a 386-based server driving Mac SEs and PS/2 50s on Ethernet. A LaserWriter IINT is hooked up through the serial port. (You can't expect anything 386 to have AppleTalk, can you? :-) ) Of course the system crawls at 9600 baud (AppleTalk works at about 200K baud), but it does work. Software should be anything that works with the IIe, such as "Publish-It!" (either version?). ---------------------------------------- /| | Scott Alfter | _ |/_ | Internet: saa33413@uxa.cso.uiuc.edu | / \// \ | free0066@vmd.cso.uiuc.edu | / / Apple IIe: ---------------------------------------- | | | A keyboard--how quaint! | | \ The power to | --M. I *think* the card is called "Flashcard" and I think that Apple itself makes (or used to make) it.
