[comp.sys.apple] America on Line - SHELLS

TE880714%STUDTEW.UFSIA.AC.BE@CUNYVM.CUNY.EDU (Stef Bracke) (01/19/90)

Dave and anyone else interested in a good 16-bit shell,

a Dutch friend of mine made a SHELL, EDITOR and ASSEMBLER on his own.
It's a big success and made me throw APW/ORCA away.
It's very powerfull, almost naked shell. (You can make your own commands as
a script or an EXE file)
Shell commands : c, CAT, CATALOG
i, Info = shows size of directory (-ies).
(you can always use -i (include hidden files), -n (tree
directories), -s (Sort) and lots more. (both + and -)
Attrib = change all kinds of attribute-bits
D, DEL, DELETE use with -u (unlock), -n (destroy tree)
                   Ren, Rename -u, -n
                   FIND /HARD1/FORGOTTEN.DOC -i ... = find the DOC in HARD1
V, Vol = volumes on line
D, Dev = devices on line
                   PARM            = change BATTERY-RAM, SHELL-SETTINGS....
                   EJ, EJECT
                   COPY -u -n -d -s .... (unlock, sort, delete source,...)
                   PROMPT
VALID, VALIDATE = check files, directories
UNL, UNLOCK , LOC, LOCK, HANDLES
                   P, PREFIX, P 0=x shows prefix *,0-15, 30. Changes prefix.
ALERT, DISPLAY 'text, BAS, BASIC, QUIT, Q,
                   LOAD path -i -r = load NDA's, CDA's, Programs (show
                                     APPLICATION NUMBER, reload when neccesary)
                   DISK SPEED, DISK LOW_LEVEL-FORMAT .dx = interleaning-miracle
OPTKEY = define your own macros, numeric pad...
FUNCKEY = define your functionkeys, home, end ...
PRINT -H ... = print on screen (default) every file
                                     adjust width, controls characters...
The Editor: Uses all the Appleworks command, Macro-definitions, local, global
            and deletion clipboard.
More then 30 files in memory. (If you quit the SHELL, it remembers
them all, according to the space left) Switching with OA-Q
            Mouse support, predefined Save-formats (APW-types, TXT, ....)
The Assembler:
Fast, complete. Define Errorfile, Listfile, Filetype to save the
result in. Do you work with old or new Opcodes???

Instead of the FINDER, I like to use this program. I has also its
disadvantages like no CHANGEFILETYPE command (easy to make), and it's
a command-line program, but I prefer it that way. The Shell also allows you
to make MENU's k la Control Panel which can be made in under a minute...
Easy if you made several scripts, but can't remember them by name.

The Program is called : SDE (SOFTWARE DEVELOPERS ENVIRONMENT or something like
that.) and it's made by KEES BUIJS. It costs about $100, or 200 guilders or
4000 Belgian Francs. I don't know if you can get it in the USA. At the moment,
a software-house is looking at it and agreed to sell it. It could appear in the
APDA-log, because it's easy to use and other programs like APW-assembler work
with it perfectly...

                      Hope you like the info,
                                               Stef

*** NOTE **********************************************************************
I've no commercial contract with the maker; he's just your average supporting
program maker around the corner. (Well, the program proves that he's not
average at all.) Anyway, THIS IS NOT A COMMERCIAL. I give some info, that's all
** Did you know that YANKEES comes from the DUTCH name JAN-KEES ? *************
