[comp.sys.apple] Copy II+

NU034421@NDSUVM1.BITNET (Bruce) (01/11/87)

Regarding Copy II+... I got V 6.0 or 6.6 packed in with my Laser 128
when I ordered it and am quite surprised at how good of a prgram it
really is. The fact that you can take a file from any dos disk (3.3 or
prodos) and have it do all the work of transferring it to another disk
of the same or ANOTHER dos is quite nice. The program also does some
basic housekeeping for your disks and will even check your drive speed
for you. I'm quite pleased to have received a copy of it with my
Laser 128.

The problem is: Copy II+ v9.x changes the ProDOS QUIT routine to its own
little routine. Meaning, if you had ProSel or any other specific QUIT
routine, C2P will override/overwrite it. I wish they hadn't done that. It
makes life a lot more difficult...

I've been having all kinds of problems with copy II plus 8.3, when
copying 3.5 inch disks. They keep coming out with the driectories
garbled, or system files munged.

Or I tried copying the whole disk file by file to my ramdrive
(1 meg slot 5 drive 1), but it kept giving me a prodos error $4a
when I tried to have more than a given number of files on the
disk. I'm not referring to the 51 file limit of the main directory,
but it would barf when trying to place files even into subdirectories.
But when I cleared up some space on the card by deleting files the
subdirectories worked fine.

I thought the 255 file limit was the number of files in a
given SUBdirectory copy II+ could handle. Was I wrong?

ECP8 does this as well, and that is one of the main reasons I do not use it,
though it has many nice features. The other reason is that nothing prints
when I type the appropriate commands. This may be due to the serial
firmware bug on the original IIc's (one of which I have)
