[comp.sys.apple] Kermit woes

bar5834@cuphub.cup.edu (Pestilence) (02/02/90)

With all the talk about pd and shareware telecomm programs and people
praising Kermit v3.85... I was wondering if anyone else has had this
problem:

When connected to the University's VAXen, and running terminal inten-
sive programs (like this NEWS program or PHONE or some such...), Kermit
tends to lock up when I'm typing and the programs sending a lot of ESC
codes back (say, to clear the screen or realign the cursor or something).
When this happens, I can't even break out to the KERMIT-65> prompt.
Could it be that Kermit is not fast enuff to handle input from both sides
and just decides to <expletive> the whole thing?

Any ideas on whats going on, or any suggestions on how to fix it?
Thanx in advance.

This happens to me a lot with both 3.85 and 3.86. Just hit
CTRL-Q (or your friendly neighborhood XON key) and things
will work again. As to why this happens... beats me!

It sounds like your aren't using the SSC driver. Unless Interrupts are
enabled (SW2-6 on an Apple brand Super Serial Card), Kermit will lose
characters when the screen scrolls. Unenhanced //e's also will drop an
occassional character when the screen scrolls due to a ROM glitch corrected
in the enhanced //e ROM.
