[comp.sys.apple] What is APPLE2-L?

cs122aw@ux1.cso.uiuc.edu (02/03/90)

OK, I give up on guessing! What is this "APPLE2-L" that everybody keeps
referring to? I take it that it's an archive somewhere, but where? How can
you access it from Internet? A full domain name would be nice.

Apple2-L is the fileserv at Brown University which holds all the uploads to the
comp.sys.apple discussion board. To get information, type:
TELL FILESERV AT BROWNVM LIST.Apple2-L (for an updated list)

APPLE2-L is a *LIST* on a BITNET server known as a LISTSERV (amazingly
enough, incredible numbers of computer users have difficulty telling one
from another -- but that's another story).

LISTSERV's respond to message (from other BITNET hosts) or to email.
For a desecription and list of commands, send email to LISTSERV@BROWNVM
(subject ignored)

In the case of LISTSERV@BROWNVM (only because BROWNVM also is an Internet host)
You can FTP to brownvm.brown.edu 128.148.128.40 as anonymous and cd to
listserv.193.

Evan if you are smart enough to get into Brown, then there's hope for my
children to go to school anywhere they want to. Every message I see from
you is "spacey." Maybe there's an air circulation problem in your dorm,
because something seems to be anesthetizing your brain cells. On the other
hand, the folks at Brown's computer center have concluded you just have an
extremely aggressive case of earwax.

There is NO server at BROWN named FILESERV
The TELL command works ONLY for IBM-CMS systems on BITNET

BITNET users can get a list of APPLE2-L files with

TELL LISTSERV AT BROWNVM INDEX APPLE2-L
(or in VAX VMS)
SEND LISTSERV@BROWNVM INDEX APPLE2-L

For those on other nets the command
INDEX APPLE2-L

can be sent as the body of email to -->LISTSERV@BrownVM.Brown.Edu

While one can FTP to brownvm.brown.edu 128.148.128.40 as anonymous and cd to
listserv.193, the INDEX is NOT available by that method. LISTSERV
documenation should, however, be accessible

LISTSERV GENINFO
LISTSERV REFCARD
etc.
