A fair while ago I noted that MSKermit 2.32 (or thereabouts) was losing characters when run on an Applied Engineering PC Transporter plugged into an Apple IIGS. Somewhat by accident I just discovered how to solve the problem. I had been using the Apple Super Serial Card to drive the modem. (No reason to change, right, when I moved up to the GS?) for entirely unrelated reasons I decided to get the right kind of cable and connect the modem to the GS's built-in serial port rather than to the SSC, and reconfigure the PC Transporter's drivers to use that to emulate COM1. Lo and behold, nary a character lost. (Oh yes, key point, I think: I set the Apple serial port up with buffering enabled.) Conclusion: the Applied Engineering serial card driver either a) does not use interrupts, or b) doesn't have a big enough buffer.
