[comp.sys.apple] Help with "Lorenz"

neufeld@physics.utoronto.ca (Christopher Neufeld) (02/11/90)

I'm wondering if anybody can help me to run "Lorenz" which was posted to
comp.binaries.apple2 a while ago. When I launch it from the desktop I get
the message:

A fatal error has occured 46
In Proc: StartUpTools
Press any key to exit

Details: I have a ROM01 ][GS with 1.75MB RAM, of which 800kB is set
aside for a RAM disk. I have no exotic peripherals, and no hard disk. I
boot System 5.0 to the Finder, and copy the seven files of "Lorenz" into
the RAM disk. The files are: graph, DATA.OUT, EDATA, GRAPH.R, GRAPH.C,
EDATA.C, and README. I then launch "graph" from the RAM disk. It touches my
system disk very briefly before giving the above message.
   My system disk has the tools: 014, 015, 016, 018, 019, 020, 021, 022,
023, 025, 026, 027, 028, 029, and 034.
I've tried launching this off a 3"1/2 disk instead of the RAM disk, with
no success, and from the shell.
If memory serves, error 46 means "file not found". Am I missing
something?

$46 is indeed "file not found", as you recalled. My guess is it's some
application-specific file that is missing or misplaced.

You've got all the toolsets that seem relevant; looks like only ACE, MIDI,
and Video Overlay are missing. If the program is starting up the Font
Manager, you need to have a Fonts folder inside your System folder--just
a stab.

I had that problem with a slightly different error number. I found
that one or more of my cdevs were trashed on my hard disk. No other
program complained. Reloading from my back up disks fixed the problem
