[comp.sys.apple] PCT things, for Ray Waxmonsky

(Sorry, but by the time info-apple messages get to me they lose their
real headers, so I don't have your full address)

a) You said you have version 2.0 of the PCT. I had not heard there were
any updates beyond 1.3c, which is what I have. Does anyone know what
changes were made?

b) I think it was you who wanted to boot from /ramaepc. I'm not quite
sure what you mean, but in anycase I don't think its posible. /ramaepc
is simply a way of making use of the PCT's memory when you are not using
it as a PC; something in the AEPC pre-boot turns it into a ramdisk for
use on the GS. The moment you invoke the PCT as a PC by starting
AEPC.SYSTEM that memory gets used as teh PC's memory and anything in it
gets wiped out. (I don't know if they bother to clear it out, but since
the AEPC BIOS does run a memory test on boot I think that must wipe it
out.) and, as a couple of us on the net have noted, its use as a
ramdisk is somewhat questionable since at least one popular program
(kermit) somehow manages to cause it to be reinitialized after you try
to catalog it a couple of times; no-one knows why, but it makes it
useless (which is a shame, i'll admit.)
