It seems these days that the Apple IIGS is being rediscovered for what it can do... When I first got my IIGS, when it was new, I remember being impressed with the sound and graphics that were (at the time) incredible for an Apple II. I was used to the buzzing or pseudo-digitized sounds of old //e games.. anybody remember the game Plasmania? How in a disgustingly "canny" voice it annouced itself? Well, it seemed I was a fool to believe the GS sounds and graphics of the time were good. (Wait! Don't bite my nose off yet!)...now that I see what is possible, with the SoundSmith demos I've received, and the incredible graphics the French and Italian demos have brought. A good example: Anybody ever take a good look at the "about" routine in Photonix? That is quite a step up from the "beep beep" of the horn on the black and white pseudo-animated tour of the GS that was released with version 1.1 of the system disk. (Oh yeah....) So, where (all you amazing GS software developers out there) are those incredible graphics and sounds? And why are they coming from overseas? Because I am not a professional developer of software like some of you out there, perhaps I'm not aware of the difficulty of creating this kind of display. Once you've seen it though..how can you ever truly feel satisfied with the software currently available? This is not an attack on the support of the apple IIGS. I've said it before, the support for this computer is there if you look for it. What worries me is the potential for developers to stop taking risks...staying TOO close to the standards of the toolbox...and too close to the //e's line of capability. Ladies and Gentlemen, the time for the GS is now...let's get our act in gear. (I for one am learning as fast as I can to take advantage of this computer...) (smile) -Jay
