[comp.sys.apple] Murph's VAPORWARE column for March

cs225ax@ux1.cso.uiuc.edu (02/27/90)

It seems as though Apple has listened to a lot of what II users have
been saying. Almost every reasonable wish that II users here wanted seems
to have come true in the ROM 04 gs. I'm already drooling for September to
roll around (ugh, except for school again.) Now if we scream STEREO, we may
get it. Or we could scream 25Mhz. Yep. :-)
I'd like to thank the person or persons at Apple Inc. that listened to
what II users wanted. The new gs seems to be a good step toward competitive-
ness. Now, I think, is a good time to get off the "II is dead" rigamarow and
get onto making this new gs _work_. It has the potential. At least, a lot
more potential to change the market than the ROM 01 to 03 change.
Maybe Apple is getting on the right track. Naahhhhh. ;-)

The phone jack on the new machine really should provide even/odd channel
stereo rather than all-channel mono as seems to currently be the case.

25MHz is unreasonable since the requisite CPUs are simply not available.

The REAL question about the ROM 04 upgrade is not what the machine is going to
offer. It's what it's going to cost all of us who have already invested in an
older model GS. My instincts tell me that if I really want this upgrade I
should sell my machine now while I can, put the money in an interest bearing
account and wait patiently until September rolls around. On second thought
thats a bad. If I had $1600 on hand I'd buy an Amiga.
