Responding to rumors that the company laid off 20-percent of its staff last week, Chief Executive Officer Robert Carroll said, simply, "We reshuffled assignments, some people are no longer with the company." He said a report that 10 of the 55 workers had been let go is erroneous, and the true number is "less than that." Preferring to characterize the layoff as a reorganization to "get in line with the business climate," Carroll added that the company is "identifying skill sets needed for growth." He added that two people were hired this week, and recruiting for new positions continues. "Our head count is up over last year. We have a balance of resources in the company. We are in a growth mode." Carroll adds the privately held company's revenues are up 30 percent over this time a year ago. Among those replaced was a member of the Applied Engineering staff who frequently offered help online on GEnie. Carroll said that participation on GEnie by staff members, who have always offered product support online on their own time on all the major online services, would continue.
