[comp.sys.apple] Oops

binder@fizbin.DEC.COM ("When you do something well, repeat it often.") (01/08/87)

David Whitney has pointed out an egregious error in my recent discussion of
Apple and IBM hardware, specifically in re: the self-synchronizing preamble
pattern used by the Apple. The 10-bit self-sync bytes aren't ten ONEs, but
rather eight ONEs and two ZEROes. My apologies for any confusion I may have
caused - it's been a *long* time since I looked at the Apple stuff, and I
dashed off that posting here at work without either my Apple documentation or
my brain available.

Cheers,
Dick Binder (The Stainless Steel Rat)

I had a little editing problem with my previous message. My question is:
ANY desktop bus key board will work with the GS, right?

And the first line of my upgrade section is something like

"Unless I'm missing something serious, a child could perform the upgrade
operation."

Perhaps with this letter, you'll be able to comprehend the other one.

Thanks, Bill.

In my post on the Elk Cloner, I said you can innoculate a disk against
the Cloner V2.0 by "changing T$11 S0 B7 to 2." This would be a BAD THING
to do! Changing byte $B7 would change the Track/Sector list. Actually,
since $B7 = 3 (mod 4) it won't have any effect, since only every 2nd pair
of bytes are used in the VTOC.
   What I meant to say was, change T$11 S0 B$7 [byte 7] to 2.

Except for the some obvious typos.. I would like to also point out that ALL of
the Shareware authors that I have come in contact with *DO* SUPPORT their
respective products with excellence!! Don Elton,Glen Bredon and Jason Harper
comes to mind.

In a previous message I wrote "mystic" instead of "mystique" as being what
Apple had lost.... hmmmm; on second thought..... could go either way, ehh?
