[comp.sys.apple] Apple II+ upper and lower case

rankins@zaire.crd.ge.com (raymond r rankins) (03/03/90)

I know there are shift key for mods for Apple II+ computers, but
are there any mods available for an Apple II+ so that it will display
                                                              ^^^^^^^
upper and lower case characters? Do any of the 80 column cards
for the II+ provide this capability? If such a modification exists,
where might I find it and how much would it cost?

Thanks for any help.

>From what I have seen all 80 col cards for ][+ will give you both upper and
lower case characters. Another option is changing your character generator
at location A5 on the motherboard.
The chip sells retail for $12.00 (I can sell you one for $10.00 postage paid.
The shift key mod goes for $7.00 but I'd recomend making it yourself.
The following is how to do it.

There used to be several manufacturers of replacement character chips
for the II+. I know because I bought one -- about 9 years ago.
You would be lucky to find one now, but some scrounging a some "funky"
parts-oriented computer store might yield one.

Alternatively, most 80-column cards do provide this functionality.
I got one of these about 6 years ago. You probably need to look in
the same kind of place. Alternatively, just run a "Wanted -- Apple
II+ 80 Column card" ad here. I'd guess about $75.
