I just saw "A Passage to India," which is David Lean's new film. He is the director of "Lawrence of Arabia," "The Bridge on the River Kwai," and "Doctor Zhivago," and this film is comparable to those films. In short, it's about a lady who's traveling to India to meet her son. She is accompanied by his fiancee' (well, sorta "planning to be planning to be...") and is a noble sort who isn't too please with the British treatment of the Indians. Happily, this isn't a "revolt" film. She doesn't start an Indian rebellion or anything of the sort, but does strike up a friendship with a nice Indian physician. When things are going rough for him, it's her faith in him (even though she's not with him at the time) that seems to carry him though. I won't continue, I don't feel I should. There's a strong plot, but little "message". It's quite a good story, with all the technical aspects (acting, editing, directing) superb. When you have three hours (just under), I recommend spending them at the cinema seeing this. Jeff Bowles Lisle, IL
