****** Warning *********** I just found this out the hard way: Omega, the artifical intelligence Tank War game for the Apple II (64k) version contains a serious error in its documentation. In the startup guide, it tells you the program needs a blank disk to store files on. It states that if you have a hard disk, and choose it as your file storage disk, it will create a directory on it and store your files in there instead of formatting it. THIS DOES NOT WORK! THE PROGRAM WILL FORMAT YOUR HARD DISK AND ERASE EVERYTHING ON IT WITHOUT ANY WARNING! DO NOT CHOOSE YOUR HARD DISK AS THE DEVICE TO STORE THE OMEGA ID.DISC INFORMATION. I have called Origin systems and they confirm that there is "an error in the manual." Speaking as a victim of this program, I feel this is sufficient reason to recall the software. There should be a notice pasted in each Apple II version that has the above warning on it. It is shameful that Origin allows the Apple II edition of the game to continue to be sold as is.
