What would happen if plugged a ROM 03 chip from a "new" GS into an "old" GS's that only had a 256K of memory on the motherboard? Does the ROM 03 chip check to see if its in the "right" machine? Thanx in advance. Jc Just Curious ------------------------------------------------------------------------- John C. What would happen if you did this? Well, it would certainly void your warranty :-). A ROM 01 machine says "ROM 01" at the bottom of the title screen. A ROM 03 machine says "ROM 3". I love the easy questions. :) -- ============================================================================ Matt Deatherage, Apple Computer, Inc. | "The opinions represented here are Developer Technical Support, Apple II | not necessarily those of Apple Group. In-Reply-To: message from UN027265@WVNVAXA.WVNET.EDU The question was put how to identify a ROM 3 machine without opening it up. How about turning it on? It says ROM VERSION 3 (or something like that) on the screen before it starts looking for drives to boot. Howzdat? Or if you have no disk to boot, turn on the computer and you will get the Check Startup Device! error message. Then press Control-option-openapple-n. If it's a ROM 03 the computer will say: Apple //!
