[comp.sys.apple] DTS is doing a good job ...

barry@rbdc (Barry Newberry) (03/11/90)

Speaking for myself, the support from DTS (on this newsgroup) has
been fantastic. Someone was kind enough to post the "definitions for
the 8530 Serial Communications Controller," and the information has
made it possible for me to experiment with the IIgs Serial Ports in
Assembly. (yes, I am a fool-hardy person after 8 years of Assembly
Language programming.)
I think a lot of people are over-looking the fact that most
software doesn't come from Apple. This is where Apple II users get
hurt the worst. The local software stores carry almost NO Apple II
programs. Apple management says "develop Mac software," and when the
developers say "what about the Apple II ?," Apple management says
"develop Mac software." From the hardware standpoint, I consider the
IIgs to be a very good machine (speed is my only real complaint).
Best programming features : Branch to Subroutine possible via PEI or
PER Op Codes (true relocatable code), lots of Inturrupts.
As far as I can tell, Shareware and Freeware continue to make
up a larger portion of new software releases. Apple has treated the
Apple II developers poorly (even though DTS has done all it could).
If Apple management and the software developers were a marriage (and
they are, in a sense), Apple has done the equivalent of coming home
and saying "Hi, honey, I've got VD, and I hope it gets worse."

(pardon the vulgarity; send any flames through the mail.)

No flames here, I agree wholeheartedly.

I want to thank DTS again for doing what they do and for putting up with us
through all the pointless flaming at them...

I'm going to be within driving distance of Cupertino over break, anybody have
any suggestions?

Other than the ones involving Apple corporate management and several dozen
rotten eggs? :-) :-) :-)
