[comp.sys.apple] Shrinkit 3.0

adreier@pro-tcc.cts.com (Andrew Dreier) (02/25/90)

With all this talk about Shrinkit/GS, is it true that there is going to be a
Shrinkit version 3.0? What new features will this version have over the old
version?

Yes, there is/will be a 'ShrinkIt 3.0' for the IIe/c w 128k. The main feature
is that 3.0 can decode the new type of archive gs/shrinkit can make. There
are some user-interface tweaks, but nothing special.

(beta testers who see this: SHHHHhhhhh....)

Unless I run into major unresolved problems, ShrinkIt 3.0 (which is *NOT*
GS/ShrinkIt 1.0) will be released in 2 weeks. Thanks to Matt Deatherage
and Dave Lyons at Apple IIDTS, I think I've squashed the last bug
tonight. Beta testers can look for your 'dF' copies in the mail pretty
soon.

Andy,

Shouldn't you also mention that you added the revolutionary Andy-PAK
routine to SHK 3.0? It'll Shrink a hard disk into a 140k file - really!

Actually, SHK 3.0 is a complete face-lift for ShrinkIT. A lot of
quirks have been worked out of it, and some additional features have been
added. But, since Andy has a gag order on me, that's all I'll say. I do know
that I can say that the interface is even friendlier (if you can believe it!)
than 2.1a, and it's easier to navigate through your directories.

And now for a round of applause for both you and your beta testers! (As well
as those two kind geniuses in Apple IIDTS. Unfortunately I just had a horrid
thought. Andy graduates in a few months. WILL YOU STILL HAVE INTERNET ACCESS
ANDY??????? We need you and others like you, and it would be a shame to have you
dissappear from the face of NetNews!

Actually, after about June 3 I won't have access to the net. I'll still be
on genie and america online, but sorry, no net access...

Kevin is kidding about this... really. :-)

This is most certainly true. There is more that could be done, but whats been
done so far is pretty nice... :-)
