Can anyone give a definitive answer on whether those 45MB removable hard disks (based on the SyQuest technology) for the Macintosh be used on the Apple IIGS with a SCSI card? Presumably, it would work just like another hard disk, but what I really want to know is if the cartridges can be mounted and unmounted without rebooting? For example, will the Finder say 'Please insert the disk: Cartridge2' when you took it out, just like any floppy disk? Does the hard disk driver in GS/OS know there is such a thing called a removable hard disk? Thanks.

I am not even sure what brand it is that I have access to, but the cartridge drive I have use of treats the drives just like large floppies. They have to be unmounted when removed if you don't want them referred to again. Hope this answers your question, but I can find out what brand we use if it is that important. Bill Swarm

I can - they work, but there are some serious quirks. I'm in the process of writing a review of sorts, and I'll discuss the quirks in it. >Presumably, it would work just like another hard disk, but what I >really want to know is if the cartridges can be mounted and unmounted >without rebooting? Yes, you can mount and unmount carts in the Finder (it greys the icons, etc.) and in GS/OS, but, as mentioned, there are some nasty quirks, and I'll mention those. The SCSI driver does know about removeables - Jason Harper's DevList program shows the devices as being removeable, for example. Remember, the //gs supports CD-ROMs, and they're removeable... >Thanks.
