[net.movies] John Varley's TITAN, will it be a movie?

sean@ukma.UUCP (Sean Casey) (01/29/85)

I heard rumors (I can't remember where) that someone was going to
attempt the tremendous undertaking of making Titan into a movie.
I believe that Sigourney Weaver was going to play the title role.

Can anyone confirm this? What director would dare attempt it?
Will it be just Titan, or will (groan) he/she do a Dune and try
to roll all three into one movie?

I think Sigourney Weaver would be perfect for the role. I'd
applaud the casting board, even giving them a standing ovation.
She IS Cirocco Jones.

My main worry is that the movie would be badly done. Many
elements central to the story (centaurs, bird people) are types
of creatures that have never been made believable on the screen.
The book contains fantastic imagery, but I'd hate to have my
wonderful imaginative view of Gaea and the story blown by a bad
movie. In a sense, I guess, I'd rather not see them make it

Anyone know for sure?

Oh, dear, I hope not. I think she'd be much better as Cirocco.

Nah, too standard pretty. Unless you saw Silkwood, you wouldn't agree,
but Cher is perfect. (What? CHER?), yeah Cher, when she doesn't wear
ridiculous Cher-outfits she looks real hard-assed tough good-looking.
