Has anyone seen a swedish film (~1950) called "Face of Fire" supposedly directed by a man who had something to do with "The Deer Hunter"? I am seeking information on where I might get a copy of this film, for sentimental reasons. (A close relative played a major roll in it, and I have never seen the film). Thanks in advance for help. REFERENCES: <188@npois.UUCP> > Has anyone seen a swedish film (~1950) called "Face of Fire" >supposedly directed by a man who had something to do with >"The Deer Hunter"? FACE OF FIRE (1959) is a Swedish film based on Stephen Crane's short story "The Monster." It is about a likable handyman (played by James Whitmore) who is horribly disfigured in a fire and how badly he is treated by the townfolk afterwards because of his ugliness. One very effective scene shows the town reduced to chaos resulting from his walking around without a mask and innocently frightening someone. The scene was later done very similarly in ELEPHANT MAN. It was directed by Italian-born Albert Band (whose real name is Alfredo Antonini), who heads up the "Albert Band Organization," a minor film production company responsible for films like DRACULA'S DOG. I know of no relation he had to DEER HUNTER. FACE OF FIRE shows up on New York TV, but rarely. It is pretty decent. > I am seeking information on where I might get a copy of this >film, for sentimental reasons. Sorry, no idea. You might write Chris Steinbrunner c/o WOR-TV New York. I think he has access to the film and often will show films if people express interest. Then you have to have some friend in the area tape it for you. Mark Leeper ...ihnp4!ahuta!leeper
