First of all, pardon me if this has been discussed before/elsewhere. We have > 20 000 lines of really crappy FORTRAN inheirited from other sources. A lot of this is functional code that needs a bit of tweaking (alright, it really needs rewriting), but none of us wants to mess with it in its current state. I know that some outfit makes a FORTRAN-C translation system (called FORTRIX, I believe) that is reputed to be good, but it's also a "cadillac" solution, in that we aren't looking for something that takes good FORTRAN and turns it into good C, just something that will take some crummy FORTRAN and give us a C framework we can enhance and rewrite at our leisure. Are there any alternatives to FORTRIX that fit this need? Alternatively, are there any service bureaux out there that can provide basic translation services of this type? The code is batch-oriented (ie, reads from / writes to files, etc etc), and has been hacked over from its original Univac FORTRAN IV state to IBM FORTRAN 77. If I get responses by e-mail and they seem interesting, I will cheerfully post a summary to the net. For those who would respond to this, one of our forwarders is occasionally rerouting our mail to the moon, so take note of alternative address info below.
