A commercial break ends late in the hour of an episode of CBS's "60 Minutes"
to be shown many, many nanoseconds from now in a context far, far away.

Morley Safer is sitting on the "60 Minutes" set in front of a ChromaKey(tm)
image: "A Few Minutes With Andy Rooney". Safer informs the audience that
"Andy Rooney is on assignment, but he will return next week."

Cut to a cluttered professorial office, lined with bookcases, papers
scattered about. Frontal view of a man at a desk. The set bears a
remarkable resemblance to the office that Andy Rooney uses on "60 Minutes".
More remarkably, the man sitting at the desk bears an amazing resemblance
to Andy Rooney himself. But Morley Safer has just said that Andy
was "on assignment". Doesn't that mean that Andy won't be on tonight ?
Is this a re-run, or what ?

"Have you ever noticed", the man asks, in the voice familiar to millions
of Americans as Andy Rooney's,

"how modern-day programming languages are not very extensible ?"

Readers of "comp.lang.*" worldwide lapse into a state of shock.
Many billions of nanoseconds pass.

As they recover from their their collective shock, "comp.lang.*"
readers are first aware once again of a voice recognized nationwide
as Andy Rooney's, as it finishes the script:

"I'm Herman Rubin."

Cut to commercial.
