All this hoopla about pointers, aliasing, efficiency, etc. - blechh!
Just imagine when *declarative* languages finally make the big time.
But, hey, it's still the twentieth century schizoid, man.

I would have pointers in declarative languages too.

Uh, ahem.  Mathematics & Pointers.  Never shall the twain meet.  Why?
Mathematics is about relations (implies functions).  Pointers are about
memory.  Memory is not mathematics.  Declarative languages are about 
mathematics.  Imperative languages are about memory.

Now, before anyone starts thinking about nukin' me,  DISCLAIMER TIME:
THE ABOVE IS A GROSS GENERALIZATION.  THIS IS JUST A DREAM.  MAYBE SOMEDAY...
