I'm exploring the early history of the Euclid programming language for a class assignment. I've found an article in the 1977 SIGPLAN Notices that mentions that the language definition was settled on that early, but the first compiler apparently didn't appear until 1981. The SIGPLAN Notices article mentions that (as of 1977) implmentation was being carried on at the System Development Corporation. What exactly happened between 1977 and 1981? Were they the ones who produced the first compiler, and if so why did it take so long? P.S. Please respond by E-mail since I don't usually read this newsgroup. --Jean Thomas (jrt@cs.arizona.edu)
