[comp.lang.misc] `Semantic analysis phase' generators?

Automatic generation of lexical analyzers, parsers, even code generators are
relatively commonplace now-a-days, but are there compiler tools to help
automate the building and manipulation of internal data structures prior to,
say, generating intermediate code?  Conceptually, I am interesting in tools
that help automate the `semantic analysis' phase `after' a plain parse, but
before code is generated.

I would greatly appreciated any pointers to the literature, programs, or
ongoing projects.
