A copy of the Beta release of I-APL crossed my desk today. It is a free APL for PC and Clones. A colleague of mine has taken it for evaluation. More information will be posted when it becomes available. If you want more information now, write to Ed Cherlin 6611 Linville Drive Weed, California 96094-9763 USA 1-(916)-938-4684 The development of I-APL has been made possible by contributions of hundreds of individuals and many organizations. For instance, SIGAPL, the Special Interest Group for APL of the Association for Computing Machinery [ Are you a member? :-) ], the British APL Association, the German APL Club, have all contributed. The objective is to create an APL that will run on small machines already in place in schools. This includes some of the smallest micros around, but also will include PCs. On some of these systems, workspace size will be limited and it is not lightning fast, but the interpreter is a full ISO Standard implementation. If you think this is a good idea, you might write to Ed and include a [tax deductible] contribution made payable to "I-APL, Incorporated". -- L. J.
