[comp.lang.apl] explicit data deomposition, or the Really Rotten Reals

rbe@yrloc.ipsa.reuter.COM (Robert Bernecky) (04/22/91)

in a recent posting, Greg Jaxon said something to the effect that ( I wish
I knew how to undelete messages) "I like to be able to decompose my
data explicitly, so that I can tell what's going on". This was in support
of the APL2 approach to composition, etc (Use partitioned enclose or
enclose with axis, then use EACH a lot).

Dialects such as APL2 FORCE you do use this approach. J and SHARP APL
ALLOW you to use this approach, but ALSO offer you the opportunity to
use rank and other adverbs to achieve the same result in other ways.

Remember, as Ferdinand Feghoot said of Captain Cook: One man's meat
is another man's poi, son!
