[comp.lang.apl] APL to Fortran

sasp@saturn.lerc.nasa.gov (James Fincannon) (05/14/91)

Does anyone know of a APL to Fortran converter out there
either commercial or public domain?

Is there a converter from apl to fortran out there,
commercial or otherwise?

I don't know of a public domain one, but I believe that the Yorktown APL
Translator (YAT), written at IBM by Driscoll and Orth (and a few
other lending a hand), has been passed on for public sale by some
group outside IBM. A call to Don Orth or Graham Driscoll at T.J. Watson
Labs in Yorktown might determine whether this is truth or rumour. I heard
from a usually reliable source.

YAT converts APL\360 code to Fortran (can you say DO LOOP?).

It sure ain't gonna be free.

Bob

There's an experimental APL to C converter available for free,
courtesy of Tim Budd. C and Fortran are almost the same language
aren't they? At least I think one can call C from Fortran and vice
versa on some machines.
