I am thinking of doing some work on a medium sized (~15,000 lines) Fortran program, and would like to be able to work on it on my PC, so I need a Fortran compiler. The speed of the generated code is not particularly an issue, unless it's really awful, but I'd like to be able to port stuff from larger machines with a as little hassle as possible. What experience do people have. I know of compilers from Microsoft, Ryan-McFarland (also relabelled as IBM) and Lahey. Are any of them particularly good or bad? All things being equal, I'd rather pay less than more, but I'd rather pay more for one that works than less for one that doesn't. I'd also like not to have to buy a 287, but suspect that I'll be sorry if I don't. If it makes any difference, the computer is a PS/2 mod 50. TIA, -- John R.
