[comp.lang.fortran] Stat subroutine packages NAG & IMSL on Unix machines

m1rcd00@fed.FRB.GOV (Bob Drzyzgula) (05/13/88)

Ob. apology: Sorry for the cross-posting, but there is no newsgroup for
"Statistical Packages On Sun Workstations" :-)
We are in the process of trying to decide which of two statistical
subroutine packages -- NAG and IMSL -- to purchase for our network of
80 Suns. They both seem to have the subroutines we need and both profess
to have ported to Sun. Without going into detail on price, NAG's offer
for up to 100 Suns is significantly less than IMSL's offer, although the
terms are also significantly different. At this point, we are missing one
part of the equation: How well *do* these packages perform on a Sun? Have
they *really* been ported? Or will we find ourselves constantly dealing
with bugs? Are they dismally slow? Or just wonderful? Do they get along
equally well with the Sun Fortran 1.0 as well as the base Fortran? Any
problems with Sun 4 (we have one, considering more), or the 386i? What
about support issues? How do they respond to a bug report? Etc, etc, etc.
Anyone with any experience with these packages on Suns or other Unix
machines, please email any response to: ==> uunet!fed!rcd <== and I
will summarize in a followup posting.

	**Thanks in advance**
