E. Randolph (Washington Post) this morning writes that the Dallas Times Herald has cancelled "Joe Bob Goes to the Drive-in" due to a satire Friday ("We are the Weird") which went "over the line" according to Times Herald editor Will Jarrett. Two hundred people came to the paper to protest and a front-page apology was printed yesterday. The column's author, John Bloom, evidently will continue to write a sports column "Jock Talk with Joe Bob". Joe Bob says "I've checked out". -- MDG ARPA: trwatf!maverick@SEISMO UUCP: ...!{decvax,ihnp4,allegra}!seismo!trwatf!maverick ...ucbvax!trwrb!trwatf!maverick

[] The first I ever heard of Joe Bob was through the net-posted articles -- he was pretty obscure. If this fuss made in on national TV, though, you can bet one thing for sure -- you haven't heard the last of Joe Bob, and you'll probably see him in next week's People Magazine and NY Post. Also, Time and Newsweek will do identical articles in their journalism sections, in maybe 1 or 2 weeks -- whichever week, it will be the same week for both.
