I have been informed there are over 50 VPs installed throughout the world, mostly in Japan, a few at Universities. There is an opinion held by some that these "could have be Cray sales..." but that opinion is a value judgment. Most of these sites desiring IBM compatibility. The 3090 in the opinion of most people (National Labs, Research Centers, and major computing sites) is not a supercomputer, but certainly a respectable vector processor. The compiler is very good. The I/O however is still IBM channel rates. Lopsized performance does not cut it. Something around 200 3090s have been delievered with only 40-50 with vector facilities. You can ask Carl Conte at Supercomputer 88 in Orlando for more precise numbers. You can also ask Seymour his opinions as well. We are getting away from Fortran, this isn't architecture either. Maybe you guys need comp.marketing.......
