The movie is actually A Study In Terror (1965), starring John Neville.
The movie was tied in with a Ellery Queen novel of the same name.
This info is from Holmes of the Movies, by D.S. Davies (Bramhall 1976),
yet another Holmes-Movies book that I did not mention in my previous
reply.
Murder By Decree is also about the Ripper and is a far superior movie.
(I have written an article on Holmes vs. Ripper in print and screen;
it is a few years old now but ....)
