There has been some discussion here that it is unreasonable for ANSI to receive a large amount of money paid to Global Engineering for each draft of the proposed Fortran standard distribued to permit public review and comments. Also, ANSI refused to grant permission to publish the draft in the Fortran Forum or SIGPLAN Notices. Many members of X3J3 feel that these policies impede the purpose of the distribution: to obtain the greatest input possible. Since the document is not copyrightable, there is nothing to prevent distribution of the document other than the desire to honor ANSI's wishes. Therefore, Tom Lahey has asked me to make the following announcement for him. Copies of the draft proposed Fortran standard submitted for the second public review are available for $18 (the cost of printing and mailing) from: Lahey Computer Systems P. O. Box 6091 Incline Village, NV 89450-6091 702/831-2500 702/831-8123 (FAX) This document is identical to the one available from Global Engineering. Tom is doing this as a public service, so please don't hassle him with purchase orders, credit cards, and such; just send him a check (he didn't say this, but I have added it). -- Walt Brainerd Unicomp, Inc. brainerd@unmvax.cs.unm.edu 2002 Quail Run Dr. NE Albuquerque, NM 87122 505/275-0800
