I came to know about the following (unknown source) and would like to find out more about these two products. `There do exist translators from Fortran 8x array syntax to Fortran 77 code which are in general propriety -- for example, the VAST compiler (used by Alliant as their front-end for the fortran 8x syntax), PARAPHRASE from the University of Illinois (or a commercial version from Kuck and Associates).......'. If any of you netters have any information - published papers, addresses or contacts, I would very much appreciate if you can e-mail it to usha@fsu.bitnet Thanking you in advance Usha Chandra usha@fsu.bitnet

VAST is a FORTRAN to FORTRAN preprocessor, not a compiler, that is used by a number of systems as the front-end to their compilers. VAST analyzes DO loops for vector/parallel-ization and inserts compiler directives. It also restructures the loops when possible (inverts loops, propagates scalars to vectors, etc.).
